This panel will explore the implications of the presidential runoff results on different social trends and for the maintenance of the fourth-largest democracy in the world.
On October 30, 2022, Brazilians will head to the polls to decide the Presidential runoff. The electoral dispute between former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2010) and the current president Jair Bolsonaro has been marked by violence, fake news, and attacks on democratical institutions, including the electoral system itself. Our speakers will discuss the implications of this election on gender rights, the juridical system and how it will test Brazilian democracy.
